Sundruntan Race Spotlights Part 1

Updated: Aug 27, 2019

The Sundrantan Galaxy is a spiral galaxy much like our own, yet a bit larger in size. In it live a wide variety of alien races ranging from descendants of the Human Race to a small scrappy aliens who enjoy their explosions a bit much.

The races featured in this spotlight will all appear in my first novel, "Drifters: Origins." Others will be revealed in the future as I share more lore of the Drifters universe.

Races Spotlight #1: Beast Humans

The Beast Humans originated on the planet Corinth and are, by many races, considered to be one of the greatest oddities in the known galaxy. They are offshoots of the Human race, which is no longer present on Corinth and are mostly Human in build, yet they bare characteristics of different mammals native to their homeworld. They have fur, animalistic heads, and tails with the exception of the Gorillas,

The true oddity of them as branches of the Human race lies not in their animal characteristics but in that the offspring up mixed couples is impossible to predict in advance of conception. The Branches do not mix as in the offspring of a Cat and Dog with no mixed heritage would only be either a Cat or a Dog. Additionally, if either parent has an ancestor of a different branch than their own, then there is a chance that the child could take after that ancestor even if they were several generations back such as a Raccoon being born to a Leopard and Wolf couple because one of them had a Raccoon ancestor. This has led to the Beast Humans being known as the “Party Favors of the Galaxy.”

They have colonized a great many habitable worlds in the area of space surrounding their homeworld and their sphere of influence stretches out into the stars. Many of the Beast Human worlds have gathered together under the banner of the Corinthian Confederation. Beyond the inner Corinthian worlds lies the Frontier. A wide area of space that is largely unaffiliated and largely lawless. Two growing powers within the Frontier toward the center of the galaxy have been gaining power and threaten to cut the Corinthian Confederation off from their allies and primary trade routes.

Race Spotlight #2: Kin

The Kin are a humanoid fox-like race that bare a striking resemblance to Fox Beast Humans of the Corinthian peoples. The primary differences between them are that the Kin have pawed feet and long slender tails with tufts of fur on the end. The appearance of their tails has led to them being referred to as “Broom Tails” by other races of the galaxy.

They are calm on the exterior but are a very passionate people if they are intensely interested in something or their mental state is somehow affected. Their physical similarity to the Fox races of the Corinthian people helped to foster natural comradery between the Corinthians and Kin. They are close allies and trading partners with the Corinthian Confederation and help to police the outer boundary of the Frontier near the Median Trade Routes.

Race Spotlight #3: Severen

The Severen appear to be a mixture of goblin, hyena, and weasel. They are a short hasty race with a love for explosions and business. They tend towards being more aggressive than other races even when joking; although, they tend to adapt their personalities when in long-term contact with members of other races. This can have a beneficial mellowing effect on them that is even acknowledged by the Severen themselves.

Like the Kin, the Severen have developed close ties with the Corinthian Confederation, yet due to their hasty and sometimes erratic nature, they sometimes allow a trusted member of their most closely allied race, the Rhynos, to speak for them on matters of mutual interest.

Race Spotlight #4: Rhynos

The Rhynos are a giant wide-bodied race whose average height ranges from 7 to 8 feet but have been known to grow taller on rare occasions. Their general appearance can best be described as being somewhat between that of a gorilla and a whale.

They are patient and deliberate to the point that it can be mistaken for being stupid and slow but are intelligent and are known to look toward the ‘long game’. They have a long-standing and close relationship with the Severen race and have also become closely affiliated with the Corinthian Confederation.

More lore will follow later this week and I will finally get into just who the Drifters are and what the novel series will be about.
