Corinthian History Part 1: Creation to the Fall of Promise

Updated: Sep 7, 2019

This is the beginning on a series that covers the history of Corinth from the creation of the Sundruntan galaxy and will cover the events that lead up the opening of the upcoming sci-fi fantasy novel, "Drifters: Origins."

The creation of Corinth and its earliest history very much mirrors our own. When the world was new, Humans were the only sentient people on the planet and they had an environment where everything was provided for. They were only given one commandment, not set foot on the Holy Mountain. The first Humans lived a perfect existence until a wave of Corruption spread through the galaxy originating from some unknown source. This influence, in conjunction with temptations told to them by the Temptor, led them to disobey and venture onto the Holy Mountain so that they might obtain the Hidden Knowledge.

For their transgression, Humans were cast out of their garden and given punishments. Humanity thrived, grew, and prospered. As it did, the influence of Corruption began to manifest in the hearts of the prideful as they sought to elevate themselves above the Creator. Those who gave themselves into Corruption sought to spread its influence to all they encountered. Despite warnings, Corruption was embraced by nearly all of Corinth except for one family. Rather than let the entirety Human kind on Corinth fall to Corruption and ultimate destruction, He took the last remaining Human family who had not yet fallen and had them prepare a cavern system to act as a refuge.

When all had been prepared, the last family and at least two of every creature on the surface of Corinth was brought and sealed into the cavern system. Meteors and comets rained down onto Corinth, bringing with them poisonous gasses that killed all animal life, both Corrupted and non, along with the Corrupted Humans. When the poison gasses had dissipated, the Cavern was opened and the Humans were allowed to venture forth to populate the world.

Again, the Human civilization grew and was united as they sought to better themselves. Pride began to assert itself in their hearts as it seemed there was nothing they could not do. Rather than allow pride to lead to Corruption taking root in the hearts of the Humans once more, the Creator divided the people. Instead of doing it by language, as He had done on other worlds, they were divided by form. Animal characteristics were incorporated into the Humans of Corinth according to the manner of their personalities according to groups. This was the birth of the Beast Humans. There was only one group left unchanged who were to serve as the Creator’s chosen people.

The Beast Humans were scattered across the face of Corinth while the Humans remained in their homeland to build their civilization. They were blessed with both great knowledge and prophets who relayed to them the words and teachings from the Creator himself. The Humans were charged with spreading both their knowledge and the Scriptures to the Beast Humans, but failed to do so. They had come to see the Beast Humans as inferior and thought themselves superior to both them and their primitive technology. Their prideful arrogance proved fertile ground for Corruption.

The influence of Corruption spread in the Human’s kingdom, the Kingdom of Promise. The people of the northern part of the kingdom gathered all the brightest minds within the kingdom to themselves and split off. Their new kingdom, the Kingdom of Refuge, shut themselves off the rest of the world and prepared to defend themselves against invasion. The Corrupted continued their domination of the remaining Kingdom of Promise and sought to weed out all those who were not loyal to their new leader and high priest. A great many fled to hide amongst the Beast Human nations and took the knowledge of the scriptures with them. This was the time of The Exile.

With almost none left to oppose it, Corruption began to manifest outwardly in those who embraced it. The skin of many grew to be a sickly gray while others grew in size until they were lumbering monsters and shadows of their former selves. Beyond many physical changes, strange abilities also surfaced from the Corruption. Some gained the ability to cast Corrupted energies from their hands that could whither living things. Others gained abilities to torment the minds of others and force them into their will, while some gained the ability to twist creatures into monstrous servants bound to their own will. When their domination of the Kingdom of Promise was complete, the Corrupted renamed it to the Kingdom of New light and began making plans to conquer the rest of Corinth and to make the Beast Humans their slaves.

The next entry will resume the history of Corinth with the gathering of the Humans of the Exile, The War Against Corruption, and the introduction of an important group that leaves a lasting impact on the planet, the Rangers.
